Additional Information

Since aromatherapy is not a regulated field, there isn't a standard educational path.

Some people choose to get a degree in physical therapy, then receive further education and training in aromatherapy.

As well, there are a number of colleges that offer aromatherapy courses -- usually in the continuing education department. There are also private training institutions in several locations across the country.

The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA) and the Alliance of International Aromatherapists (AIA) both provide lists of schools that meet their educational standards. By completing a program at a NAHA- or AIA-approved school, you become eligible to take the registration exam from the Aromatherapy Registration Council (ARC). However, registration is voluntary.
