Additional Information

Since a large majority of bankruptcy trustees are lawyers, you should consider getting a law degree if you are interested in this career. So you may need to go to law school.

You'll usually need a four-year undergraduate degree before you start law school.

You must also write an aptitude test (LSAT) to get into a three-year law degree program.

You can also become a bankruptcy trustee if you have an accounting background or significant business experience.

Anyone hoping to become a trustee should first file a resume with the U.S. Trustees Office. The National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees says each region has its own criteria for appointing trustees.
